s'mores
When I was in Philly over the weekend, I had a great time. We spent some time walking around Mt. Airy where my friend Wayne lives, walked around South Street, and hung out at Colin's apartment watching old episodes of the Ben Stiller show.
In the evening, we went to this place called Cosi. It was some trendy sort of cafe...things seemed pretty overpriced, but looked tasty. I just had an iced coffee. Anyway, one of the things they had on their menu was make your own s'mores. People at a neighboring table ordered them. They bring this little Sterno flame kinda thing and the ingredients to your table. I guess it's kind of cool, and maybe a little romantic for a couple, but a part of me just felt so annoyed. C'mon, s'mores are meant to be eaten at a campfire with lots of campfire smoke smell permeating your clothes. When your fingers get sticky, you wipe them on your dirty cut off shorts or on the grass, and you sing a round of Kumbya (i don't know how to spell that). I know, let the people enjoy their desert...but it made me long for a campsite on the lake and wish that opportunity on these "city folk" (gosh I sound like a Clampett)
By the way, we decided to not have dinner at Cosi because it was so pricy and went to Silk City Diner, where I had hoped we would go. I had a great omelette and scrapple. Yum yum.

So, I guess making s'mores in the microwave is a bad thing, too. I like any excuse to eat melty marshmellow and chocolate, but I do certainly see your point. POWER TO THE CAMPFIRE!

I saw one of those contraptions at my grandmothers birthday party. I actually ate a smore made from it. I'm not a big smores fan, too messy, although i'll eat one every once in awhile. But i agree, nothing can replace roasting a marshmellow over an actual fire, the authentic thing is the best.
